Most people look forward to Friday evenings as a time to put their feet up, relax on the sofa, and unwind after a busy week of work. But recently, a dedicated trio from the Consult Group decided to spend their Friday evening a little differently. Instead of heading straight home, they laced up their walking boots and took on the Thames Moonlight 10 challenge.

Despite facing absolutely pouring rain, the team walked 10 miles through the evening to raise vital funds for a phenomenal charity: The Genie’s Wish. Starting at 4:30 PM and finally finishing at 7:45 PM, they pushed through the elements and the fatigue of a full working day to cross the finish line.

We are incredibly proud to announce that their fantastic efforts raised over £1,200 for this brilliant cause. This blog post is a celebration of their resilience, a thank you to everyone who donated, and a closer look at why supporting charities like The Genie’s Wish is so important to us at Consult Group.

A Rainy Friday Evening for a Brilliant Cause

Taking on a 10-mile walk is a respectable challenge on any given weekend. Taking it on after a long, demanding week in the office requires a whole different level of motivation. When you add relentless, pouring rain into the mix, it becomes a true test of character and stamina.

Our amazing team members—Dee Pitcher, Paul Gill, and Danielle Oliviere—showed exactly what they are made of. Representing the wider Consult Group family, including Consult Construct, Consult Sustain, and Consult LDN, they tackled the Thames Moonlight 10 with incredible determination.

Walking for over three hours in poor weather conditions is no small feat. They kept their spirits high, supported one another along the route, and kept their minds focused on the reason they were doing it in the first place. When they finally completed the 10-mile stretch just before 8:00 PM, they were soaked through but absolutely triumphant. We can all agree that they more than deserved a celebratory pint at the finish line!

Why We Support The Genie’s Wish

The driving force behind this wet and windy trek was the desire to support The Genie’s Wish. This incredible charity works tirelessly to bring joy and create lasting memories for people who are going through unimaginably difficult times.

The Genie’s Wish is dedicated to granting wishes for people aged between 16 and 40 who are living with a critical or terminal illness. They also provide vital support for young carers under the age of 16. For these individuals, daily life is often consumed by medical appointments, treatments, and enormous physical and emotional stress.

A granted wish offers a precious escape. It provides a moment of pure joy, a chance to feel normal, and an opportunity to create beautiful memories with family and friends. Whether it is a special trip, meeting a hero, or acquiring equipment that improves their quality of life, these wishes bring a powerful beacon of light into dark situations.

Knowing that every step taken in the rain would help fund these magical moments gave our team the ultimate motivation to keep going.

The Power of Teamwork and Resilience

At Consult Group, we talk a lot about the importance of teamwork. Usually, this refers to how we collaborate on complex construction projects, share knowledge across our divisions, and solve problems for our clients. However, events like this charity walk highlight a different, equally important side of teamwork.

Taking part in a physical challenge outside of work hours builds a unique kind of camaraderie. When you are walking through the rain, with tired legs and miles still to go, you rely on your colleagues to keep you motivated. You share stories, you distract each other from the discomfort, and you cross the finish line together.

Dee, Paul, and Danielle exemplified this spirit perfectly. Their shared resilience not only got them through the 10 miles but also strengthened the bonds that make our working environment so positive. It shows that the supportive culture we nurture inside the office naturally extends to the challenges we take on outside of it.

The Benefits of Pushing Your Limits

We always encourage our staff to look after their physical and mental wellbeing. Taking part in charity walks and outdoor challenges is a fantastic way to achieve this. Walking is excellent cardiovascular exercise, and spending time outdoors—even in the rain—has proven benefits for mental clarity and stress relief.

Furthermore, giving back to the community provides a profound sense of purpose. Psychology shows us that helping others triggers positive emotions and increases our overall sense of happiness and fulfilment.

By pushing their physical limits for a charitable cause, our team experienced the best of both worlds. They boosted their own wellbeing while making a tangible, positive difference in the lives of others. This is a powerful combination and something we want to continue encouraging across the entire business.

Our Commitment to Giving Back

This fundraising walk is part of a broader commitment at Consult Group to operate as a socially responsible business. We believe that successful companies have a duty to support the communities around them and lift up those who need help the most.

Throughout the year, teams from Consult Construct, Consult Sustain, and Consult LDN take part in various charitable initiatives. From Christmas Jumper Days to charity football tournaments, we are always looking for ways to use our energy and resources for good.

Raising over £1,200 for The Genie’s Wish is a significant achievement that will directly fund life-changing experiences for people facing critical illnesses. We want to extend a massive thank you to Dee, Paul, and Danielle for their exceptional physical efforts and their dedication to fundraising.

We also want to thank every single person who sponsored them. Your generous donations are what make these initiatives successful, and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our colleagues, clients, and partners.

How You Can Still Show Your Support

Every single donation, no matter the size, makes a genuine difference to The Genie’s Wish. It helps them reach more people and grant more wishes, bringing joy to those who need it most.
