Energy Assessment Services

SAP is the methodology used by Government to assess and compare the energy and environmental performance of dwellings. Its purpose is to provide accurate and reliable assessments of dwelling energy performances that are required to underpin energy and environmental policy initiatives.

Similarly, SBEM is used for non-domestic buildings in support of the National Calculation Methodology (NCM), the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the Green Deal.

Our assessors are registered with Elmhurst Energy Ltd, the UK’s largest accreditation scheme, and uses software tools to determine CO2 emission rates for buildings and compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) and equivalent Regulations throughout the UK.  It is also used to generate Energy Performance Certificates for domestic and non-domestic buildings, essential for the sale or rent of properties.

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC's)

EPC’s are a legal requirement for whenever a property is built, sold, or rented so it is critical to choose a company with solid experience in this domain. U-Value Calculations

U-values are a measure of how effective a material is as an insulator; the lower the U-value, the better the material is as a heat insulator. U-value calculations are used to identify how effective elements of a building’s fabric are and their compliance with the minimum fabric standards of the Building Regulations Approved Document L. These calculations form a vital role in assessing the overall fabric energy efficiency of your property.

With help from Consult Construct our experienced energy assessors can calculate a building’s elemental U-values and advise on any changes necessary to give you the peace of mind that your construction is compliant.

Thermal Bridging Calculations & Modelling

Thermal, or cold bridging is a heat bridge or thermal bypass where a component has higher thermal conductivity than the surrounding materials, creating a path of least resistance for heat transfer, which can cause increased heat loss and potential defects in a building.

At Consult Construct, we work with our clients to identify these bridges at technical design stage and provide recommendations on best practice to overcome unnecessary heat loss.

We are also able to undertake specific thermal modelling to calculate the heat losses and provide solutions in mitigating these losses.
